Experience a unique tour through two floors of formal and country ‘tablescapes’ created by owner Sheila Chefetz, author of two table setting classics, Antiques for the Table and Modern Antiques for the Table.
Thirty or more imaginative and complete table settings feature 18th, 19th and early 20th century fine china services, delicate porcelains, early creamware and transferware pottery, silver serving pieces and specialized flatware, sets of stemware, dining room tables and chairs, mirrors, decorative accessories, antique wine objects, and custom linens….all assembled in richly diverse, colorful and imaginative ways.
Important names to be found in the porcelain and pottery collections include Adams, Ashworth, Cauldon, Clews, Coalport, Davenport, Doulton, Derby, Herend, Hicks and Meigh, Masons, Minton, Ridgway, Shelley, Spode, Wedgwood, and Worcester. From these important makers, we feature finely gilded, artist-signed handpainted fish, fruit and dessert services as well as complete dinner services and individual cabinet plates.
Famous glassmakers include Baccarat, Cambridge, Fry, Moser, Pairpoint, Salviati, St. Louis, Steuben, Tiffin, Val St. Lambert and Webb. The handwork of these artisans includes wonderful handblown fantasies, delicate etchings, masterfully cut and gilded crystal and an astonishing array of color in elegant stemware.
Silver craftsmen include Christofle, Gorham, Jensen, Reed and Barton, Tiffany and other fine English and American makers. Specialized mother of pearl fish, fruit and dessert services in their original boxes, full everyday canteens of flatware, individual silver serving pieces, tea services, candlesticks, dazzling epergnes and centerpieces and out of the ordinary table accessories make perfect gifts for the bride or accessorize the most discerning hostess’ table.
For seventeen years, this specialized and first of its kind shop has been the definitive and most extensive in North America, residing in a late 18th century yellow clapboard house on the main street of town. This renowned shop has been featured editorially in Architectural Digest, Veranda, Southern Accents, Traditional Home, House and Garden, Elle Décor, Country Living, Berkshire Living and Victoria. The shop owner and knowledgeable staff can provide helpful design and color guidance for filling cabinets and cupboards as well as creating effective wall treatments and ‘feast for the eyes’ tablesettings. Young collectors as well as experienced shoppers and professional interior designers have found The Country Dining Room Antiques to be a valuable source and a ‘must see’ stop in the Berkshires.
