Hill House Antiques, “Bungalow Style in the Berkshires”, specializes in the furniture and decorative arts of the early 20th Century Arts & Crafts Movement. This includes Arts & Crafts and Mission furniture from Gustav Stickley, L&JG Stickley, Stickley Brothers, Limbert and others; art pottery and tiles from Rookwood, Grueby, Weller, Hampshire, Teco, Roseville, Marblehead and more; metalwork, textiles, lighting, and accessories.
Edward Surjan and his wife, Beverly Dahl, are the owners of Hill House Antiques. Surjan’s interest in the Arts & Crafts Movement began in the early 1980’s as a student at the University of Chicago after attending an exhibition of the works of Louis Comfort Tiffany. Immersed in the Hyde Park campus featuring Gothic and English Arts & Crafts architecture, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House and Tiffany’s Bond Chapel, these pervasive surroundings lent a certain inevitability to what has become a life-long passion. Following an entrepreneurial career in high technology, Surjan has been a full-time antiques dealer since 1999. Dahl and Surjan search extensively throughout the U.S. and abroad, primarily from private collections and individuals, for their carefully selected inventory.
Hill House, named after Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s 1903 home for publisher Walter Blackie, is located in a restored post and beam barn on scenic Route 41 in Sheffield, MA. Hill House Antiques is routinely featured in national and regional publications.
Shop hours are 12 – 5 most weekends and weekday appointments are welcomed, (413)-229-2374 (please call ahead to avoid disappointment).
