Real Gustavian was founded by Stockbridge resident, Lani Sternerup in 2002. After returning from living and studying in Sweden for six years Lani was amazed by the level of interest in the Swedish Gustavian style. With a degree from a Swedish University in Art History & decorative arts, Swedish 18th century is not only Lani's passion, it is her specialty.
Real Gustavian features a fine selection of period late 18th to early 19th century Swedish antique furniture, prints, lighting, mirrors and other decorative arts. What Lani doesn’t have in inventory, she can generally find for her clients in Sweden. A full line of Swedish made Gustavian reproduction furniture is also available through Real Gustavian.
Her work been featured in Victoria Magazine, Veranda, Town & Country, Travel & Leisure, Art & Auction, Antiques Weekly and New Old House. She has also collaborated on the book Classical Swedish Architecture & Interiors 1650-1840, published by WW Norton, and leads an annual design study tour to Sweden called “18th century Sweden: The Golden Age of Gustavian Style.
As she buys monthly in Sweden, the inventory is constantly changing. Real Gustavian is your one stop Swedish design resource in the Berkshires offering traditional Swedish linen & cotton fabric by the yard, Scandinavian home-goods as well as design services.
